Elections

Interested in getting more involved with MSCA and helping shape the future of school counseling in Michigan? MSCA members are encouraged to consider serving on the Governing Board or nominating a colleague who demonstrates leadership and a commitment to the profession.

Nominations for open Governing Board positions are accepted annually. Members may nominate themselves or another MSCA member for consideration.

Serving on the Governing Board

Governing Board members play an active role in the leadership and direction of MSCA. Board members are expected to participate in Governing Board meetings and key MSCA events throughout the year.

Nominees are asked to provide a letter of support from their administrator confirming permission to participate in required MSCA activities, including:

  • Four in-person Governing Board meetings during the school year
  • MSCA Annual Conference
  • Spring Conference
  • Legislative Education Day
  • Annual board retreat, when applicable

Board Positions

Elected positions may include President-Elect and representatives for the Elementary, Middle School/Junior High, High School, and Counselor Education levels. Available positions vary by election cycle.

President-Elect is a one-year term. Candidates must meet one of the following prerequisites:

  • Served on the Governing Board for two consecutive years; or
  • Served as Conference Chair, Legislative Chair, or a Level Vice President.

Level Representatives serve as a resource for school counselors within their respective settings, encourage communication with counselors at their represented level, and participate in the Nominations and Elections Committee.
